Hackney’s Polish Enterprise

Hackney pre-season tour party 2012 found themselves on the Polish – Czech border after a 4 hour journey in a state of slight bewilderment. The group was 4 strong and even the least gifted mathematician around could see that it wasn’t enough to field a 7’s team. The problem of numbers didn’t stop there when the breakdown of tourist was 2 full time players (Matthieu Arneguy and Shaun Rooke), a mascot (Ollie “plate for an arm” Relph) and a coach (Ben Chamberlain). It got even worse when the coach declared he wasn’t actually there to coach our team but instead had signed up to coach a ladies team from Warsaw named the Frogs. No matter as we recruited Rob Reynolds from Kew Occasionals along with a few guys from London Japanese RFC and were introduced to local Poles from Posnan looking for a game.

Matt Elliot Cup 2012 & Ladies Development Day Success

Hackney Rugby Club's annual 10s tournament - the Matt Elliott Cup, was held on Sunday amidst a tropical rain storm. A chance for old and new players to don their boots for a day of fun and frolics down at Springhill Park. With the use of several gazebos, the new changing rooms and plenty of food and drink, everyone's spirits were kept high throughout which made for a thoroughly entertaining day.
