The first game ever played by Hackney RFC

Hackney RFC owes much of its origin to now sadly deceased Jim Smith. Jim was an ex-army man, a prop for Saracens, and games teacher at Woodberry Downs Comprehensive school. It was Jim’s idea to form a rugby team comprised of the Old Boys of the school, all of whom Jim had coached. Thus, in 1965, the Old Griffins team was born.

50th Anniversary Party

Hackney RFC’s official 50th anniversary celebration party will held on the evening of Friday September 18th, coinciding with the first match of the Rugby World Cup 2015, at The Water Poet, Spitalfields. The event will be held in the large Cellar Bar, which has a cinema screen and AV facilities at which we will be showing the opening match of RWC2015.

Training and Matches around Chrismas and NY

2nd and 3rd XV's play there last games of the calender year on Saturday 13th December. Away to Hemel Hampstead and home to Enfield respectively. The Griffins (1st XV) are also in action at home and rumour has it the 4ths will fly again on the 13th for a Christmas outing, though this is to be confirmed. The Gladies can enjoy a longer Christmas break with no games scheduled till the 11th January.
