Hackney have confirmed that three ‘new’ faces will be joining the coaching team for the next season.

Fullback James Hardwick will become Kicking Player/coach and last season’s 1st team vice-captain Ollie Hart will take responsibility for Strength and Conditioning. Whilst continuing to play on, ex-2nd team captain Tim Cox will take a wide ranging role focusing on Mental Skills but also assisting during match-days as a player coach.

Director of Rugby Fred Pentecost explained the logic ‘While it’s difficult to combine playing and coaching, we felt these three guys had the attributes to be able to handle it and in James and Ollie’s case it’s very much a reward for the excellent standards they have set over the past few seasons. Coxy is a bit different, as he was unable to commit his time to continue as a captain, despite the best efforts of his team to persuade him to carry on and given his skill-set and experiences outside of rugby, his offer of helping out with the ‘soft’ skills was an opportunity not to be missed. We now feel that we’re starting to build a coaching structure that is unparalleled at this level of rugby, although we are still looking to build if the right people come along.’

The three new additions will work alongside Morgan Whitlock who continues in his role as Ladies Coach, Michael Ryan, Ben Scanlan and Fred Pentecost.
