The Gargoyles travelled to Tring for the game of their season, facing off against a Tring side unbeaten at home in two years and out of reach in the league.  There were scores to be settled from the first game of the year where some strong running from the Tring backline saw an understrength Hackney XV go down 45 . 12.

Not so this time round as the Gargoyles flew out of the blocks, pulverising the Tring scrum and earning early penalty shots with some strong running and aggression at the breakdown.  Tring were duly punished by the metronomic boot of Mike Fanning who ended the match with an 86% success rate (6/7) kicking at goal.

Early pressure began to tell on Tring as Pete .the prop. Walsham crossed for the first try of the match to give the Gargoyles an early 10 . 0 lead.

In what was to prove a pattern during the match Tring refused to lie down, capitalising on some Hackney mistakes in their own half to snatch a score and bring themselves back into it at 10 -5.  However the writing was on the wall as a fired up Hackney led by the barn-storming Newton Mills combined forward aggression, silky backline skills and intelligent kicking from .Siege gun. Fanning to apply the pressure.  Further tries from Sam .the step. Tivoi and Blair .White line fever. Gray gave Hackney a comfortable half-time lead but after the break the hosts struck back finding a hole in the Gargoyle defence to score under the posts and threaten a comeback.

This was not to be their day however as Hackney replied almost immediately through MOTM Mills smashing his way over from short distance on 50 mins.  The second half remained competitive with some excellent scrambling defence from the back three, but despite losing a man to the bin for some alleged skulduggery, the Gargoyles closed out the game with Tivoi crossing again before Uzo galloped away for a trademark solo effort.

A late consolation try for Tring could not overshadow a resounding Gargoyle victory founded on a huge effort from the whole 18.

Bring on the final!
