Hey, so who are you?

Tim Marshall - Head Coach

How long have you been with Hackney?

This is my first season with the club

Did you play or coach rugby beforehand?

I started playing at school at 13 before playing for local clubs and University. I had also found a club to play at wherever I lived. I started coaching in 2006 and went full time as a coach in 2014, coaching in London and Norfolk before I joined Hackney.

What have you thought about the club since you arrived?

Its been great getting to know new players and seeing how they developed over pre-season. The general attitude and atmosphere at the club is fantastic and its really enjoying working with those involved at the club, whether it’s coaches, players or committee members.

Can you tell us a little bit about you coaching role?

I am the head coach, but we are working as an all inclusive coaching team and we all deliver the game plan and training together. On match days, I am working with the 1st XV and post game, reviewing the game and providing feedback and analysis to the coaching team and squad.

Who’s your rugby hero? And Why?

Very hard one, Probably Jerry Guscott. One of my first memories in rugby was the 1997 Lions and Jerry’s drop goal to win the series against South Africa is a stand out moment.

And greatest moment in world rugby?

Apart from Jerry’s winning drop goal in 1997? Northampton Saints winning the Aviva Premiership in 2014 at Twickenham and being in the stadium to witness it happen after the pain of losing the 2013 Final! And the small matter of that day in Sydney in November 2003!

What are you hopes for the new season for Hackney?

That the club builds and getting stronger. It’s fantastic to see the club represented by 4 clubs this season and it’ll be great to see all the teams being successful this season.
