Stuart Lancaster has made a brave stance in his imaginative and bold Elite player selection.  Uncapped players account for almost a third of the squad.  Preparations are to take place in Leeds far from the comforts of Twickenham, with an originality not seen since the Woodward era.

Bill Beaumont has put his name forward to be considered for RFU chairman.  He was an inspirational player at his zenith but that was 30 years ago when most readers of this were still a twinkle in their father’s eye.  This job is not some latter day Question of Sport jaunt but one that requires inspirational thinking. “Out of the box” springs to mind, so England need to look for someone, be it from within or without the sport, who is not “almost in his box”.
