The Club

Hackney RFC is east London’s fastest growing rugby club, with 4 mens sides, a rapidly growing women's side and an award winning youth division. This success saw the club rewarded in 2018 with the Aviva Grassroots Rugby Competition award and in 2009 with a trip to play at Twickenham ahead of the Premiership Final after winning the Club Together competition.

New players will find a welcoming and friendly atmosphere, a great social side and big plans for the future. We have a wide range of nationalities representing the club, and our players travel from across the capital, as we’re easily reachable from Islington, Walthamstow, Tottenham and Bethnal Green.

After winning every game in the London and South East 3 league in 2016/17, Hackney 1st XV (known as the Griffins as a nod to the Old Griffins who started the club) now play in Level 7 of the RFU structure - London and South East league 2 (North West)

Our club motto - FELLOWSHIP IS LIFE

Our Club values -

Anyone is welcome at our club, and everyone is encouraged to be involved both on and off the field. We are drawn from every walk of life and every section of our community, and Hackney Rugby Club is richer for it. The only obstacle to anyone’s involvement at any level of our club is their attitude and desire.
Everyone who steps onto the field, volunteers their time or allows us to enjoy our game is crucial to our success and we treat them respectfully. This attitude ensures we are honest, hard working and supportive team-mates. Hard to earn and easy to lose, every member of our club maintains this respect, and everyone walking through our door is afforded it.
We are part of something bigger than ourselves, be it our club, our sport or our local community. Whenever possible, however we’re able, we give back to that community. Stronger together, we aim to make Hackney Rugby Club the most inclusive, respectful and successful it can be.

On the 27th August 2015 the club was awarded the RFU's Clubmark Accreditation.
