Hackney 3rd XV 41 - 3 Letchworth 4th XV

Written by: Jon Wood

Prematch nerves transmuted to purpose, disconnection to resolve and doubt swept clean away in the blustering winds of Springhill as the mighty Gogs dismissed Letchworths pretensions to title glory. The visitors took home three points of the 36 scored and those gifted to them by the lawless ineptitude of the home sides Captain.

Followers of the Gogs may notice a pattern emerging. This week the celebrated trio Angry Sam, Rolfin and Andy Boon were alive with animal intent: Unrelenting in defence- never an inch conceded whilst notching up a tremendous collection of demoralising turn overs; In attack unbridled; In the set piece intelligent and disciplined: they were the core and inspiration for the packs success. Against tough opposition this success sometimes faltered but when the ball was delivered cleanly to the backs a sublime centre, fly half symmetry came into play. Despite up against the second best defence in the league the centre partnership(Sam Yauner, Richard Yong) scored 4 out of Hackneys five tries.

Beyond this, as a squad, the Gogs did the work necessary to put them clear at the top of the table and keep an unprecedented defence record. Everyone played their part, scrambling, scrapping, fighting for possession and retention. Next up Welwyn away- The Gogs cant wait.

MOTM: Richard Yong: Two of the best tries of the game, great timing and great defence.

Special Mention: Batsey did a great job in the second row despite suffering at every scrum for the Gog cause. Guest star Will Roberts had a great game going forward softening up Letchworth's hard defence.
